Tenant's tips

With property prices rising, it's no wonder that many people still find themselves unable to get on the first step of the property ladder. For others, given their careers and lifestyle opting to rent is the way forward.

Tenancy agreement

First of all you'll need a tenancy agreement, which will basically be the rules set out and agreed by you and your landlord. The agreement is prepared for you by Jordans, on behalf of your landlord and is legally binding on both parties. It's important to take time to read through it to make sure you and your Landlord will have a happy relationship.

Rental payments

Payment of all monies required for the tenancy must be cleared before the tenancy can commence. Personal cheques take five working days to clear, otherwise payment can be made by cash or Bankers Draft.

All rents are per calendar month and are payable on the monthly anniversary of the commencement date of the tenancy - there are no days of grace.

It'll be your responsibility to

  • Insure your own possessions.
insure against accidental damage to the landlord's property, fixtures and fittings.
  • Pay the utilities, gas, electric, water and council tax.
  • Look after the garden.
  • Supply own TV, including TV license, video, bedding, linen etc.
